[ It's the morning after prom that Clotted Cream finds himself hesitating in front of Pure Vanilla's bedroom door, before ultimately knocking very politely on it. Even going this far has taken quite a while - and involved sneaking out in the middle of the night to swim in the river, in fact, in a desperate bid for mental clarity.
Luckily, he's quick to dry off. No hint of his sneaking out to be seen. ]
[ Oh he has been for the last hour or two, but it's difficult to get up when your fiance has you in a vice lock. It's very sweet. He's loathe to move.
He has to pee.
His voice is soft but audible enough as he calls back:]
One second, my dear.
[ Minotaur strength has to come into play as he wrestles with Dark Cacao so he can slip out and replace himself with a pillow, put on a bath robe, then answer the door. ]
[ Ah, those are some... odd muffled sounds coming from inside the bedroom, but Clotted Cream politely ignores them aside from a brief flicker of curiosity. It isn't any of his business, of course, and he's certain that Pure Vanilla's leg configuration may make climbing out of a bed a little more complicated. He can't quite wrap his mind around how those legs bend.
By the time Pure Vanilla opens the door, he's directed his attention towards a portion of the floor. He turns his eyes back up, clearing his throat. ]
Hm? Oh, no, nothing is wrong. I was hoping that we might be able to talk? I've had... something on my mind, and I would value your opinion.
Of course, sweetheart. Meet me in the kitchen? So I may get dressed, and so we don't wake Dark Cacao further.
[ The man will sleep or so help him. And once Pure Vanilla is dressed and Cacao is given several kisses to lull him back to sleep - at an arms length so he can't grab him back in with the promise he can come join them if he wakes up - Pure Vanilla will more to the kitchen to make him and Clotted Cream some breakfast.
And some coffee for Cacao in case he does wake up. ]
[ Dark... Cacao? Why would his gentle knock on Pure Vanilla's door disturb Dark Cacao any furth--
Oh. Oh. ]
Ah. Yes. Of course. Please, take your time.
[ It's only through practiced grace that he keeps his composure until Pure Vanilla closes the door again, at which point he lets his expression slip into wide-eyed surprise at the door. Truly, it makes sense, particularly if the two of them have known each other as long as they have, but... goodness, he feels blind.
Though, maybe it has something to do with his own currently muddled feelings.
While Pure Vanilla readies himself, Clotted Cream makes his way down to the kitchen. While he waits, he takes the liberty of brewing a pot of tea for himself and for Pure Vanilla. It's the one kitchen-related task that he has confidence in doing one-handed, and Pure Vanilla will likely appreciate the effort. So, as he settles in to make breakfast, he will have a cup of tea already fresh and ready to sip. ]
Ah, well... Did you happen to meet another Cookie at the dance last night?
[ Oh, tea. His tail wiggles as he picks his cup up with a pleased thank you, sipping it gently as he pulls out things to make. He has yet to ask if Dark Cacao or Clotted Cream would like meat, so Clotted Cream is getting a vegetarian meal. An egg and vegetable scramble. ]
Another Coo- ah! Sparkling Cookie, correct? I did not personally meet him yet, but Beat was so kind as to point him out to me.
[ Then whine and cry that Pure Vanilla didn't recognize him. Like he was personally offended all Cookies were not best friends, or something. He didn't explain. He puts his tea aside as he begins to cook, chopping the vegetables. He's getting quicker! ]
Did something happen between you two? Is everything all right?
[ So it hadn't been a vivid dream, then. That makes him feel better, but only in the sense that he has confirmation it was real. Simultaneously, it doesn't clear any of his thoughts in the slightest. ]
Oh, no, I'm perfectly alright.
[ He's not. His thoughts have been plagued by this Cookie all night, and he got very little actual sleep. ]
I can't help but feel as though I know him... And I haven't been able to get him out of my mind since we returned to the Grove. I find myself wanting to spend more time with him, but until your confirmation just now, I hadn't even been certain that he was real to begin with. It felt like a dream...
[ Luckily, Clotted Cream isn't paying much attention to anything but the table in front of him. His tea sits largely undrank - he took a couple of sips out of it, but it seems to be more for comfort and companionship than to drink. ]
Please. [ It's said with a sigh. ] I haven't the slightest why he feels so comfortable to be around when we've only just met. It's like I've known him far longer than a day.
[ Oh, he's trying not to giggle. Clotted Cream has obviously never had a crush before! It's too cute. He hums softly, hooves clicking on the floor as he shifts. ]
Well, I may be wrong of course, but to me it sounds like you have quite a large crush on the young man.
[ Now he turns his head in Clotted Creams direction, his smile wide and obvious. ]
[ Is that what this is? He's developed feelings? But it seems so... so quick for something like that. He's only known Sparkling for an evening. And yes, granted, they did get along quite well from the start, and he did enjoy their time together, but.
By the Light, Sparkling had said that he was starstruck. That the evening was more than magical. Clotted Cream's face flushes a dusty pink through his tanned skin, and he stares down at his cup of tea as if it holds the answers to everything. ]
[ Focus on breakfast, Pure Vanilla Cookie, focus on breakfast. He's quiet for a moment, adding eggs to the food finally to begin to scramble it all up properly, expression turning thoughtful. ]
Our friend Beat has been quite adamant we have all come from a world before this one, that was not our own. Explains why we are different in our human changes. And Sparkling Cookie did look... different to me.
[ The obvious changes obvious. ]
Perhaps you two knew and were close to one another in this previous world, and like all of us minus Beat, seem to have forgotten. I would question Beat if he has knowledge of this, he seems like he was quite close with us all.
That's right. When I first saw Sparkling Cookie, I had asked him if we had met before. He hadn't, and he didn't know about the other world, either...
[ But if there is some sort of pull... There's clearly a link, clearly something happened that changed all of them, they wouldn't look like this otherwise. But had they known each other before? Had they been friends before?
Clotted Cream frowns down at his tea, thoughtfully. ]
I'm not sure that I would want to base a relationship, platonic or otherwise, on what once happened. No matter what happened in that other world, none of us remember. It would be cruel to place expectations.
[ And yet, the feelings are there. If he assumes correctly, based on what was said, they may have been there for Sparkling, too. Was Sparkling also sensing something last night? ]
... no. If I am to pursue any feelings, I will do it the proper way. I would not feel comfortable with the result if it did not develop naturally.
[ And he's going to let Clotted Cream mull all of that over for himself, separating the breakfast onto a plate for him and sliding it over. Look, he'll even serve up a small plate for himself to eat as well! Tiny little nibbles, as he settles himself beside CeeCee with his tea, thoughtful. ]
A friendship first, then, my dear. Simply get to know the man. Ask him his hobbies, share in them. Share your own with him.
[ He is smiling still because this is the cutest fucking thing. And he's still in the honeymoon phase of falling in love with Dark Cacao (pv that was a thousand years ago) honey moon phase anyways. ]
Are you intent on your desire to pursue him, my dear?
[ Just as a surprised little aside. As if he's been sitting here the entire time and had forgotten that Pure Vanilla was making breakfast.
He did, actually. He did do that, for just a few seconds.
He hadn't realized how hungry he was, either, and so he - politely - takes a few bites as Pure Vanilla speaks. Oh, it's good. Vegetables are still a new adjustment, but it's good. ]
... I'm not sure. Admittedly, it's nothing I've ever considered before. Father felt that such things were a distraction, and so he forbid it. But my father isn't here, and I am free to do what I want. I suppose it will depend on the feeling I get as we develop a friendship... but if I do, I will ensure to do it the proper way.
[ Hm, Pure Vanilla is not a violent man, but he can sic Dark Cacao on Custard. It would be very satisfying to see the bastard get thrown out a window.
He stirs his scramble up a bit on his plate, nibbling on a vegetable here or there. His smile just won't go away. ]
Indeed, you are free to do as you want. It seems like a wonderful idea to simply be friends with him at first. Take it slow, simply enjoy spending your time with him. If something blossoms from it, then embrace it. But do not feel like something must happen.
[ He turns his attention from his food to Clotted Cream and reaches over to gently brush his hair behind his ear. ]
[ What Pure Vanilla says is true. Nothing has to happen. Letting things develop without expectation is the best and most natural way to do it, and he agrees with that. There had been a reason he'd gone to Pure Vanilla, after all - the man has a good head on his shoulders.]
Yes, you're right. If it simply becomes a close friendship, I think I will be glad of that, too.
[ After all, he never really had friends. Not until Pure Vanilla, and more recently Dark Cacao, now that the air between them has cleared a bit. But he would very much like to be friends with Sparkling, he thinks.
When Pure Vanilla reaches out to brush his hair behind his ear, Clotted Cream pauses, hesitating with the tips of his fork tongs on the plate. Allow himself to be happy... Yes, he can do that now, can't he. Here, he has none of the responsibilities that he has back at home. Should they find a way to return someday, he will gladly take up the mantle again, but until then... ]
I will do my best. Consider it a promise, both to you and to myself.
[ He smiles and curls his hand around the back of Clotted Cream's head to tug the other in to press a kiss to his forehead, then let him go so he can keep eating his breakfast, and so Vanilla can focus on his plate as well.
Though, of course, as any good parent, he's going to tease. ]
So! Tell me how the night went? What did you two talk about? What's he like?
[ He raises an eyebrow gently in play, nibbling on his food. ]
[ Unfortunately, it is not easy to gracefully cover up choking on a mouthful of scrambled egg and veggies. Luckily, it's a light enough choke that it's easily covered with a clearing of his throat.
Please ignore the way his ear fins remain flared even after he seems to regain his composure! He's fine! ]
Ah... Well! We danced together, as that is what one does at those sort of parties... But, back at home, he is a bartender in the Kingdom, and he knows GingerBrave. He must do a fine job at it - I've noticed he can be quite charming. He is also a healer, though he claims he doesn't have much time for adventures.
[ A small bit of egg is getting pushed around his plate as he talks, but as he does, his ear fins relax. It's a sign of comfort. ]
He seemed quite starstruck, to be speaking with the Consul of the Crème Republic - in his own words, not mine, though I am beginning to think that may have also been his charm at work. However, we did agree that a certain amount of anonymity is enjoyable, so we spoke a bit more informally.
[ Hehe! The Minotaur manages to school his expression, but his tail wobbles all over, betraying his delight in getting the cutest rise out of Clotted Cream. Though he is polite as he listens, his ears turned towards him.
The smile remains plastered on his face though. The sheer force of it looks like he might break his cheeks. ]
Oh! He must be a resident of the Cookie Kingdom, then. And a healer at that, goodness, I must meet him.
[ Mostly to vet whomever is looking at his son. He hum's to the 'starstruck' comment, hiding his smile with his food. Because the news of the Crème Republic couldn't have spread that fast. Unless, of course, Gingerbrave went home and promptly told everyone. Which Vanilla does not doubt. He misses that young man. ]
Hm~ His charm, perhaps, or maybe he was just as taken with you as you were taken with him?
no subject
He kind of hates who he is, after all. But he keeps those thoughts to himself, his smile strengthening as he squeezes Cacao's hand. ]
Precisely. Into bed, my love, and you keep your hands to yourself, we're not married yet after all.
[ But the smile is teasing and he arches an eyebrow. Cause he's gonna cuddle the Oven out of his fiance. ]

Luckily, he's quick to dry off. No hint of his sneaking out to be seen. ]

Only to grow wider and understanding as the boy continues, shifting vegetables into the pan to begin to cook them, looking amused. ]
I see. [ Haha. His Staff seems to be smiling as well, curved upwards. ]
May I offer my thoughts, my dear?
